KUWAIT: In a pioneering initiative reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, Weyay Bank, Kuwait’s first digital bank, announced the launch of eco-friendly electric buses at Sabah Al-Salem University City.
The launching ceremony was attended by Salah Al-Fulaij, Chief Executive Officer at National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) – Kuwait, Mohammed Al-Othman, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer and Digital Banking Group at National Bank of Kuwait, Emad Al-Ablani, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at National Bank of Kuwait, and Hisham Al-Nusif, Chief, Consumer Banking Group at National Bank of Kuwait. Kuwait University officials were also in attendance, including President Dr Dina Al-Mailem and Secretary General Dr Noura Al-Suwaih.
During the event, the new electric buses were unveiled as part of a sustainable and smart transportation solution designed to meet students’ needs and support their academic journey within the university campus. This initiative comes as a direct response to students’ requests and daily mobility needs, reflecting Weyay Bank’s commitment to placing youth voices at the heart of its priorities. The electric buses aim to enhance the daily transportation experience on campus by reducing waiting times and offering a comfortable, technologically advanced mode of transport, contributing to students’ well-being and enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits.

Al-Fulaij said: “We are happy to meet today in this grand event that presents a clear vision for a more sustainable and innovative future. This moment we are witnessing is not a mere celebration; it’s a milestone that reflects our deep belief at NBK Group that institutional collaborations are the onset of positive change, through which we can better serve the next generation”.
He added that Weyay Bank, NBK’s digital arm, was established under the firm belief that youth are the real driver of development. “Our role, we believe, lies in enabling the youth and empowering them so they can achieve their aspirations, and today, we are witnessing the realization of one of these initiatives, by providing eco-friendly electric buses for the students,” he said.
Al-Fulaij explained that this initiative represents the essence of Weyay Bank, which is not just a digital bank, but also a partner in achieving development, making positive changes and playing a significant role in supporting Kuwait Vision that aims to establish a more sustainable future. He added that the collaboration carries the clear message that sustainability is a shared responsibility.
Al-Fulaij emphasized that Weyay Bank’s launching of the eco-friendly electric buses at the Sabah Al-Salem University City is a pivotal transition to a more efficient use of clean energy and environmental footprint reduction, in addition to making the students’ experience more convenient on campus. “This step confirms our efforts to redefine the role of institutions in serving society and the environment. With every initiative we launch, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that sustainability is a significant part of our vision, and that innovation is always directed towards empowering youth and enhancing their quality of life,” he said.

Al-Fulaij concluded his speech by thanking Kuwait University, its management, faculty members and students for their partnership, trust and enthusiasm. He stressed that their openness to new ideas inspires NBK and Weyay Bank to continue raising the bar of ambition.
Al-Othman said the launch of the eco-friendly electric buses in Sabah Al-Salem University City is to develop transportation on campus and is an embodiment of NBK Group’s strategy of social responsibility towards the environment and education. It’s also a clear translation of the group’s vision to support national efforts aimed at adopting practical and sustainable solutions that serve society in all its categories, he said.
