Post-match, the captain reflected on the performance and the result, as well as the importance of remaining intent on improvement.
Read his Q&A below…
On how much Liverpool needed a win and a ‘statement’ on the night…
Listen, I don’t know if it’s a ‘statement’ but obviously it’s a win and something to build on. Onto the next.
On whether there’s a sense of relief for the squad…
We are – or at least I am – in the football business for quite a while, so I don’t think it’s relief but obviously we were all disappointed with losing games. It was a positive that it didn’t happen at least in my time, losing four in a row, so that’s something you have to then deal with as a group – stick together, block out the outside noise and keep working. Today we won, that’s it. We got three points on the board. Now we recover and have to be ready for Brentford.
On both centre-backs scoring for the Reds…
My goal obviously was in front of the goalie, Ibou’s was a powerful header. The last time we did it was in Milan I think. So, good that we could be important in scoring goals and securing the win of course.
