KUWAIT: Dr Yousef Al-Sari’e, Director General of the General Directorate of Radio at the Ministry of Information, hailed the University Magazine program as a successful model for harnessing students’ potential to shape the future of national media. His remarks came during a seminar titled “Integrating Roles in Radio and Media,” held Monday as part of Kuwait University Media Department’s celebration of the program’s third anniversary. The initiative is the first student-managed radio program, broadcast weekly on Kuwait Radio.
Dr. Al-Sari’e emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to empowering young talents and preparing a new generation of media professionals capable of creating and excelling in radio content. He noted that the collaboration between Kuwait University and the Ministry represents a comprehensive educational project, translating theoretical curricula into practical experience that hones students’ skills. The program was launched in October 2022 with the support of Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, whose guidance has been instrumental in its development.
He added that the program offers content combining academic dialogue, student experiences and modern media production. Highlighting the challenges facing the media sector, Dr. Al-Sari’e stressed the importance of keeping pace with rapid technological advancements and urged students to leverage these developments in their work.

Dr. Hussein Murad, Associate Professor in the Department of Media at Kuwait University, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the program aims to attract young talent from diverse disciplines within the university while enhancing their skills in a structured academic media environment. He noted that the program has grown from a 30-minute segment broadcast from the Media Department studio into a main show lasting an hour and a half every Monday, thanks to continued support and follow-up from project coordinators.
Dr. Murad added that University Magazine has hosted over 100 academic, administrative, and student figures from various colleges and trained more than 70 students — male and female — in radio production, presentation, directing and editing. Participants from four different colleges have contributed to diversifying the program’s content. The ceremony also honored outstanding students who contributed to the preparation, presentation and direction of the program, recognizing their efforts and vital role in enriching student radio content. — KUNA
