KUWAIT: The UN-Habitat Mission in Kuwait organized an event titled “Family is Homeland” to mark Arab Family Day, observed annually on December 7, highlighting the vital role of the family as the foundation of a cohesive and resilient society. Head of the UN-Habitat Mission to Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr Amira Al-Hassan, told KUNA on the sidelines of the event that the family represents a key pillar of sustainable urban communities, stressing that supporting and empowering families is essential to achieving social stability.
She noted that dedicating this day seeks to reinforce the values of family unity and stability as societies navigate rapid economic, social and cultural changes. The initiative, she added, aligns with UN-Habitat’s mandate to strengthen social cohesion and promote sustainable development grounded in strong community ties. The event featured a panel discussion addressing Arab family issues, values, and traditions while highlighting the importance of cultural exchange in enriching social understanding. The discussions concluded with recommendations aimed at enhancing family bonds and consolidating positive values within the community.
Dr Al-Hassan commended the community partnership with the staff club of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training for hosting the event, as well as the involvement of “Faza’at Al-Dahya” volunteer team and Adailiya and Faiha Healthy Cities. She affirmed that UN-Habitat’s “Maw’el” initiative will continue supporting programs that promote family stability and societal wellbeing. — KUNA
