KUWAIT: The Turkish Embassy in Kuwait hosted a reception on Sunday to celebrate the 30th of August Victory Day. In her remarks, Turkish Ambassador Tuba Nur Sonmez underscored the significant advancements and capabilities of the Republic of Turkey in the fields of military and defense. She emphasized the strategic importance of the Turkish Armed Forces as a force for stability and peace in the region.
Ambassador Sönmez highlighted the recent achievements of Turkey’s defense industry, particularly in technological innovation, increased production capacity and the notable rise in defense exports. She pointed to the expanding global footprint of Turkish defense products and the growing interest from international markets. The Ambassador also emphasized the strengthening of bilateral military cooperation between Turkey and Kuwait. She referred to the Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement signed during the official visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Turkey on May 7, 2024.
She noted that the agreement marks a significant milestone in defense collaboration and reflects Turkey’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with Kuwait, a brotherly nation with shared values and mutual interests. She stressed that both Turkey and Kuwait share a common vision for regional security, advocating mediation, dialogue and the peaceful settlement of conflicts, while also working to enhance defense capabilities.

Turning to the situation in Gaza, Ambassador Sonmez condemned the Zionist entity’s ongoing attacks, describing them as “a horrendous genocide that must end immediately.” She praised Kuwait’s humanitarian efforts and reiterated Turkey’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. “Despite the countless attacks endured for nearly 80 years, our Palestinian brothers and sisters, who have steadfastly held onto their land, will continue to live in their homeland until the end of time, God willing,” she said. The Ambassador reaffirmed Turkey’s historical commitment to standing with the oppressed against the oppressor, stressing that her country “will never hesitate to uphold justice and truth on behalf of all humanity.”
She concluded with a call for global solidarity, saying: “Regardless of faith, country, or continent, I extend my gratitude to all who refuse to remain silent in the face of atrocities in Gaza. I call upon all those with a conscience to join forces on the ‘front for humanity’ to establish lasting peace and stability in our region.” For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense of Kuwait, Dr Abdullah Meshal Al-Sabah, conveyed congratulations and sincere best wishes. He expressed pride in the dedication and sacrifices of the Turkish Armed Forces in safeguarding sovereignty and contributing to peace and stability.
He also reaffirmed Kuwait’s appreciation for the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, particularly in the field of defense and expressed readiness to further strengthen these ties in the future. The reception concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting attended by the Guest of Honor, Brigadier General Barrak Abdulmohsen Al-Farhan, Commander of the 94th Mechanized Division of the Kuwaiti Army, alongside high-level Kuwaiti officials, military representatives, ambassadors, military attachés, members of the diplomatic corps, cultural envoys and representatives from companies and NGOs.
