KUWAIT: Ministries and governorates across Kuwait held flag hoisting ceremonies on Sunday to launch celebrations marking the 65th National Day and 35th Liberation Day. Education Minister Jalal Al-Tabtabaei described the annual flag hoisting ceremony as a moment to remember the sacrifices of parents, grandparents and Kuwait’s martyrs who gave their lives to defend the country’s sovereignty and security.
Speaking at the Ministry of Education’s ceremony, Al-Tabtabaei said the occasion reflects the deep sense of loyalty and belonging among Kuwaitis and their commitment to the nation and its leadership. He congratulated the political leadership and the Kuwaiti people on the national celebrations.
Al-Tabtabaei said the ministry is keen to use national occasions in schools to strengthen students’ connection to Kuwait’s history and turn these events into “living educational stations” that encourage shared responsibility and pride in national identity. He added that new school curricula place strong emphasis on national identity, supported by school activities and educational programs that translate these values into daily practice in classrooms and school communities.
Across Kuwait, flag hoisting ceremonies brought together officials, students and residents on Sunday to mark the start of the country’s National and Liberation Day celebrations. Governors framed the events as moments of reflection as much as celebration. Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor and Acting Hawally Governor Sheikh Sabah Bader Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said the ceremonies help pass on values of loyalty and national unity to younger generations.
Jahra Governor Hamad Al-Habashi said the occasion offered a chance to remember the sacrifices of earlier generations and the country’s martyrs, while also reaffirming Kuwait’s unity under a single flag.
In the Assima Governorate, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah said the ceremonies highlight the resilience of the Kuwaiti people and provide space to reflect on the long journey that shaped the country’s development. Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah described the national holidays as a key moment to look back on Kuwait’s path of growth and nation-building, stressing the importance of public participation in strengthening social cohesion. In Ahmadi, Governor Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said the flag hoisting marked a deeply symbolic national moment, reflecting both Kuwait’s achievements and the sacrifices that made them possible.
Ceremonies across the country included the raising of the national flag, the playing of the national anthem, and cultural performances by students, officially signaling the start of nationwide celebrations. — KUNA
