KUWAIT: Kuwait hosted a series of high-level meetings and official ceremonies this week as it welcomed Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on an official state visit. The visit, which began on January 12, included formal receptions, bilateral talks and engagements with senior Kuwaiti officials. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received President Faye at Bayan Palace on January 13. The reception featured national anthems of both countries, followed by handshakes between the leaders and their delegations. President Faye also met with senior Kuwaiti officials as part of the protocol.
A formal session of bilateral talks was held, chaired on the Kuwaiti side by His Highness the Amir and on the Senegalese side by President Faye. The meetings were attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other senior officials from both nations.
Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs, said the discussions reviewed the strong bilateral relations between Kuwait and Senegal and explored ways to expand cooperation across multiple fields. “The talks also covered regional and international developments and exchanged views on shared areas of interest,” he added.

The discussions reportedly took place in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding ties and mutual desire to enhance collaboration on all levels. Following the talks, a state luncheon was held in honor of President Faye and his delegation.
On the sidelines of the visit, President Faye held meetings with key Kuwaiti officials, including HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah and Chairman of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Sheikh Saud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah. These sessions were attended by senior aides and officials, including the Undersecretary for African Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Naif Mohammed Al-Mudhaf.
Additionally, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya met with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs Cheikh Niang, discussing ways to develop bilateral relations, enhance cooperation in various sectors and review the latest regional and international developments. — KUNA
