Annual trade ties exceed €150bn • Kuwait reaffirms commitment to shared vision
KUWAIT: HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Wednesday lauded the growing trade relations between the GCC and EU, which now exceed €150 billion annually, hailing the strength of their strategic partnership. He was addressing the 9th EU-GCC Business Forum at Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center, under the theme “Together for Shared Prosperity”. The premier reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment — guided by its New Kuwait 2035 vision — to driving peace, international cooperation and sustainable development.
HH Sheikh Ahmad highlighted Kuwait’s active role in EU-GCC dialogue, citing major recent events including the 29th meeting of EU-GCC foreign ministers held in Kuwait on Oct 6. He emphasized that both regions are working together to advance economic diversification, climate-friendly trade, digital transformation and innovation, noting that collaboration in renewable energy, technology, healthcare, food security and advanced industries represents “strategic pillars of stability and openness”.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi praised the deep-rooted partnership between the two blocs, while KDIPA Director General Sheikh Dr Meshal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah stressed the forum’s role as a platform for exchanging ideas and expertise. Meanwhile, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic expressed optimism for further growth in bilateral trade, noting ongoing talks with Kuwaiti officials to enhance economic cooperation. — KUNA
