KUWAIT: Construction on a new ‘Low- Cost Housing’ project, which began in early 2025, is progressing ahead of schedule, the country’s Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdullatif Al-Meshari, said following a site inspection west of Kuwait City.
Al-Meshari, accompanied by Rashid Al-Enezi, Acting General Manager of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), and Sheikha Bibi Yousef Al-Sabah, Head of the Women’s Housing Committee at PAHW, praised the high pace of work. “Several contracts have already exceeded their officially approved timelines,” said PAHW in a statement.
Bader Al-Thaidi, Chief Engineer at PAHW, told Al-Jarida earlier this month that work is moving around the clock across multiple sites, including concrete and finishing works. Al-Thaidi said the development, which spans six major contracts, costs more than KD 785 million. Most subcontractors across different specialties have been selected. Labour and equipment have been intensified to meet project targets, he added.

The project, run by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, aims to provide suitable, affordable housing within a fully integrated residential city. It will feature nearly 9,800 units on 200-square-meter plots, each with a total construction area of 350 square meters, alongside 74 public service buildings. Two main home designs with eight façade variations balance architectural variety with family privacy. It is located roughly 50 kilometres from Kuwait City and 18 kilometres from Jahra, bordered by Salmi Road and the Seventh Ring Road.
Several contracts are running more than 20 percent ahead of schedule, with one reaching nearly 26 percent completion. The homes include six bedrooms, two master suites, living and dining areas, and quarters for domestic staff. Sustainability features include solar energy for public buildings, energy-efficient lighting, and high-performance central air conditioning. Service buildings will house schools, mosques, clinics, police stations, and shopping centres, creating a self-sufficient community. Al-Thaidi said the project remains on track for full delivery by January 2028. — Agencies
