KUWAIT: In line with its commitment to social responsibility and leading role in supporting women and society, National Bank of Kuwait concluded its annual campaign on breast cancer awareness, which was held in October, the breast cancer awareness month. The campaign shed light on the importance of early detection and prevention and included a chain of initiatives promoting awareness targeting both the bank’s employees and the larger society.
On this occasion, NBK’s headquarters building was lit in pink during October, serving as a strong visual reminder of the importance of early detection and prevention, in addition to confirming the bank’s continuous support to health issues in society.
Internally, the campaign’s initiatives focused on spreading awareness in the workplace by distributing pink-colored pins and pink drinks in collaboration with Pret. The event, held on the bank’s eighteenth floor, aimed to encourage open dialogue about breast cancer awareness.
Moreover, the bank organized specialized consultation sessions with Dr Rehab Hussain from Wara Hospital, who gave advice and guidance on breast health and early detection, prevention and self-examination. The bank also organized a specialized medical seminar on breast cancer, which was presented by Dr Mustafa Fouad Abdullateef, Head of the Department of General Surgery, Oncology, and Advanced Endoscopy at Al-Seef Hospital, aiming to exchange knowledge and latest updates with the female employees.
Additionally, NBK highlighted the importance of health and fitness, and the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle and engage in sports activities, given their vital role in disease prevention. This was achieved by offering a free Pilates class to male and female employees in cooperation with Inspire Gym.
Tree of Hope
In a unique initiative that reflects its commitment to psychological and moral support, the bank launched the “Tree of Hope” on the 18th floor, on which NBK employees wrote letters of support and encouragement for cancer patients. The tree was then transported to the Sidra Association for the Psychological Care of Cancer Patients so they can read the letters of support that provided them with a significant morale boost during their treatment journey.
On this occasion, Danah Faras – Public Relations and Event Management Officer at NBK said: “Such campaigns are an integral part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness among society in general, and women in particular, about the dangers of breast cancer, prevention methods, and the importance of early detection, as this is the first line of defense in combating the disease”.
Faras emphasized that NBK places social responsibility at the core of its corporate culture, believing in the importance of its role as an active partner in community development. The campaigns that the bank has been organizing, along with numerous other environmental, educational and health initiatives, are a practical embodiment of the bank’s established values and its deep commitment to serving all segments of society.
It is worth noting that NBK holds a track record of pioneering social and humanitarian initiatives spanning a wide range of fields. These initiatives include awareness, health and illness prevention campaigns, most important of which is the annual campaign to combat breast cancer, diabetes and prostate cancer, among other targeted campaigns.
