KUWAIT: Kuwait Municipality on Thursday launched a wide-scale field inspection campaign to monitor compliance with regulations governing the demolition of buildings of all types across the country’s six governorates. In a press statement, Khaled Al-Otaibi, Director of the Safety Department at the Municipality’s Ahmadi Governorate branch, said the campaign reflects the municipality’s commitment to enforcing regulations and procedures related to the demolition of private residential, investment, commercial, industrial and chalet properties, with the aim of safeguarding the safety of citizens and residents.
Al-Otaibi said inspection teams carried out field tours that resulted in the demolition of nine investment properties following the expiry of the warning period. The teams also issued three citations for violations of safety requirements and served seven warnings in the Al-Mangaf area. For his part, Mohammad Al-Azmi, a member of the Ahmadi Governorate inspection team, said several demolition sites were cited for failing to properly fence off work areas, a key requirement under Kuwait Municipality regulations. He explained that the absence of adequate fencing at demolition sites could lead to damage to public facilities or cause traffic obstructions in surrounding areas.

Al-Azmi noted that inspection teams conduct site visits after demolition permits are issued by the Engineering Licensing Department, adding that the Safety Department’s role begins once the safety permit is granted. The department then monitors demolition and construction sites throughout the governorate. He stressed the importance of full compliance with municipal laws and regulations, affirming that safety departments in all six governorates are intensifying field campaigns to ensure the strict enforcement of Kuwait Municipality’s rules and systems. — KUNA
