KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health (MoH), through its Elderly Health Services Department, launched on Sunday an awareness campaign highlighting the risks of multiple medications under the slogan “Health through Balanced Medication.” The initiative, running until next Thursday, seeks to educate the elderly and their caregivers on the importance of safe and balanced medication use, as well as identifying inappropriate or duplicate prescriptions to preserve health and quality of life.
The campaign is being held across several locations, starting Sunday at Capital Mall from 10 am to 10 pm, followed by Al-Oyoun Health Center on Monday from 9 am to 12 pm and Jabriya Health Center (Mahmoud Haider) on Tuesday at the same time. It will continue at Bayan Health Center on Wednesday and conclude at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital on Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm.

The campaign forms part of the MoH’s ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about polypharmacy — the use of multiple medications — which is particularly prevalent among older adults. Experts stress that improper or excessive use of medicines can increase the risk of adverse reactions, drug interactions, and hospitalizations. The ministry encourages elderly patients to review their medications regularly in consultation with doctors and pharmacists to ensure safe and effective treatment. Kuwait, like many countries, faces a growing elderly population, making initiatives such as this critical in promoting preventive healthcare and improving overall wellbeing among seniors. — KUNA
