Reds men’s and women’s players requested that part of the proceeds from last season’s auction sales went towards supporting local children and young people.
As a result, a total of £177,000 will be shared between LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity, the Owen McVeigh Foundation and Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
Supporters continue to have the chance to own a unique piece of club history by bidding to win match-worn or match-issued tops worn by their favourite players this season too, and part of the funds raised will once again be gifted to charity. More details can be found here.
LFC Foundation will use its share of the funds to deliver dedicated child-focused projects, helping to tackle social inequalities and raise aspirations in communities across the Liverpool City Region and internationally.
Children and young people are at the heart of everything the Foundation delivers, with more than 87 per cent of programme participants last season under the age of 16 and more than 145,000 people supported in total.
With an ambitious five-year strategy to support 500,000 people every season by 2030, the funds from last year’s match-worn shirts will help LFC Foundation to deliver more of its vital work and continue to drive positive social change.
Matt Parish, CEO of LFC Foundation, said: “We are so grateful to our players for choosing us among other local charities and of course to our supporters, whose generosity through match-worn shirts has helped to support the health, learning and employability of children and young people in Liverpool and further afield.
“The funds raised will allow us to deliver new child-focused projects, as well as support two fantastic local charities in the Owen McVeigh Foundation and the Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
“Together, we continue to tackle social inequalities and improve the lives of those in our community.”
The Owen McVeigh Foundation supports children and families across Merseyside who are affected by cancer, providing them with memorable experiences and helping them to create special memories.
Mark McVeigh, founder of the Owen McVeigh Foundation, added: “It means so much to be recognised alongside LFC Foundation and Alder Hey Children’s Charity. We’re incredibly thankful to Liverpool FC, the players and especially the supporters for choosing to make a difference for local children and families.
“The funds we receive will help us to continue to create unforgettable experiences for children living with cancer across Merseyside – giving families precious moments together during the most difficult times.”
Alder Hey Children’s Charity supports the incredible work of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, helping to fund life-saving equipment, research and facilities to ensure every child receives the best possible care.
Tracey Wilson, head of philanthropy at Alder Hey Children’s Charity, said: “Alder Hey is immensely proud to be chosen by the players to benefit from this incredible gesture.
“We are grateful not only to the players for championing our work, but also to every supporter who took part in the auction. To be recognised alongside two fantastic local charities is a testament to the strength of our community and what we can achieve together for children across our region.”
