KUALA LUMPUR: Kuwaiti inventor and engineer Sarah Aburjaib underscored on Tuesday the importance of supporting innovators and protecting intellectual property rights as a means to boost innovation and development worldwide. Her remarks came during her participation in Intellectual Property Week 2025, which opened in Singapore with delegations from more than 40 countries and over 5,000 participants.
Aburjaib, CEO of ScansX and the first Kuwaiti and Arab recipient of a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) award, took part in a panel discussion titled “Value Creation through Intellectual Property: From Intangible Assets to Strategic Growth.” She highlighted her innovation — an AI-powered handheld scanner capable of instantly and non-invasively detecting brain injuries, including tumors and clots, without the need for MRI or CT scans.
Aburjaib stressed that strong IP protection provides essential legal and technological backing for research and development, thereby fostering greater innovation. Organized by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) in cooperation with WIPO, the forum is addressing key issues such as asset marketing, investor engagement, cross-border licensing, and dispute resolution. WIPO is also holding sessions on the Madrid and Hague Systems, the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the IP marketplace to support startups and small businesses in scaling and innovating. – KUNA
