JEDDAH: Kuwait’s State Audit Bureau has secured a seat on the Executive Council of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) for a six-year term. The announcement was made on Tuesday during the 15th session of ARABOSAI’s General Assembly held in Jeddah. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr Saud Al-Zamanan, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Financial, Administrative, Legal and Pre-Audit Affairs, expressed pride in the bureau’s achievement, describing it as a reflection of the confidence placed in Kuwait by fellow Arab audit institutions.
“This victory highlights the bureau’s respected position in oversight, auditing, and professional excellence, as well as its active contribution to regional and international forums,” he said. Dr Al-Zamanan added that the success reflects the bureau’s sustained efforts through active participation in ARABOSAI committees and initiatives promoting constructive cooperation among Arab oversight bodies.
The three-day assembly, which opened Tuesday, is being attended by State Audit Bureau President Essam Al-Roumi, Dr Al-Zamanan, Director General of the President’s Office Fawzia Al-Enezi, and Khalil Al-Wazzan, Supervisor of the Production and Manufacturing Control Department for Oil Entities. The sessions aim to strengthen collaboration between member institutions, enhance performance efficiency, and adopt recommendations to support joint initiatives.
A technical seminar scheduled for Wednesday will focus on capacity building, reviewing experiences of Arab audit institutions, discussing strategies for staff development, and evaluating the impact of training programs. The assembly will conclude on Thursday with the 70th meeting of ARABOSAI’s Executive Council to address key organizational matters.
Established in 1976, ARABOSAI comprises all member states of the League of Arab States. The organization promotes cooperation among Arab audit institutions, supports transparency and accountability, enhances government performance, and strengthens ties with the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and other regional and international bodies.
Speaking at the opening session, Dr Hossam Al-Anqari, President of Saudi Arabia’s General Auditing Bureau and ARABOSAI Chairman, emphasized the importance of modernizing audit practices to keep pace with rapid global developments. He highlighted the adoption of advanced technologies to boost efficiency and promote transparency and good governance, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 priorities in administrative reform and oversight excellence.
Fadila Gargouri, First Vice President of Tunisia’s Court of Accounts and Deputy Secretary General of ARABOSAI, noted the organization’s intensified efforts to foster cooperation, exchange expertise, and align audit practices with the Sustainable Development Goals. She stressed the need to expand partnerships with INTOSAI and other international organizations to strengthen oversight across the Arab world. Counselor Mohamed Al-Faisal, President of Egypt’s Central Auditing Organization and President of INTOSAI, described ARABOSAI as a long-established professional platform fostering Arab integration in public audit. He commended its initiatives, including the Arab Auditor Fellowship Program, for enhancing auditing capacities in the region.
The Kuwaiti delegation is accompanied by State Audit Bureau President Essam Al-Roumi, Dr Saud Al-Zamanan, Director General Fawzia Al-Enezi, and Khalil Al-Wazzan. Kuwait’s Consul General in Jeddah and Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef Al-Tunaib, along with Diplomatic Attaché Abdullah Al-Waqyan, are also attending. The General Assembly is set to address key agenda items, adopt recommendations to enhance joint action among member institutions, and conclude with the Executive Council meeting on Thursday, reaffirming ARABOSAI’s role in promoting transparency, accountability, and professional development across the Arab audit sector. – KUNA
