BEIRUT: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, met Wednesday with Nemat Aoun, President of the Lebanese National Commission for Women’s Affairs and wife of the Lebanese President, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in supporting and empowering women in peace and security initiatives. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah’s participation in the 12th session of the Women on the Front Lines conference, organized by the May Chidiac Foundation in Beirut.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed key national efforts undertaken jointly to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, focusing on women’s participation in prevention, protection, and decision-making processes. Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Sabah emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing regional and international cooperation on women, peace, and security issues, praising the Lebanese National Commission for Women’s Affairs for its initiatives that strengthen women’s role in public life and contribute to societal stability.
Nemat Aoun commended the existing cooperation between Kuwait and Lebanon, highlighting the importance of continued knowledge exchange and coordination to advance women’s participation in peace and development initiatives. The meeting concluded with both sides affirming ongoing joint efforts to develop programs addressing the needs of women and girls in the region, supporting their role in building peace and security at national and regional levels, in line with the United Nations’ objectives. Also attending the meeting were the Chargé d’Affaires of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Lebanon, Counselor Abdulaziz Al-Dalh, and Diplomatic Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zainab Al-Mansouri. — KUNA
