KUWAIT: Kuwait has hosted the global “SDGs Through Arts” initiative for the first time, thanks to the efforts of Prof Hanouf Saad AlMonaifi, Kuwaiti visual artist, art historian and ambassador of the initiative under UNESCO for the Gulf States and Yemen. Organized in collaboration with ZeeArts, the French Embassy in Kuwait and the Scientific Center, the event highlighted the role of international, cultural and scientific partnerships in raising awareness about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of French Ambassador to Kuwait Olivier Gauvin, Counselor Hamad Al-Mansouri from the UAE Embassy, Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters Dr Mohammad Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah Dr Sheikha Alanoud Al-Sabah as well as diplomats, cultural figures and leading artists.
Nineteen artists took part, including 17 Kuwaitis alongside international participants, presenting sculptures, ceramics and paintings. Al Sadu House also contributed, while a panel discussion brought together artists and experts to explore how art can advance sustainable development. AlMonaifi noted that Kuwait marked the 17th stop in this global journey, which travels across countries spreading the message of sustainability through art. She stressed that hosting the event reflects Kuwait’s role as a hub for creativity and a cultural and humanitarian messenger to the world. “Kuwait will always remain a nurturing home for such creativity, and a beacon of culture, art and peace,” she concluded.
