Bahrain’s top security official discusses Bahrain’s experience with alternative penalties, open prisons
KUWAIT: Kuwaiti officials welcomed Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, during his visit to Kuwait on Monday. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received Sheikh Rashid at Bayan Palace and exchanged greetings, with the Bahraini minister conveying best wishes from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Crown Prince returned the greetings, wishing Bahrain’s leaders good health.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah led talks with Sheikh Rashid on shared security priorities, cooperation and experience-sharing. Sheikh Fahad said the visit reinforces the “deep and historically close ties” between Kuwait and Bahrain, particularly in the security sector. The discussions also covered Bahrain’s experience with alternative penalties and open prisons, noting the positive outcomes these measures have produced in developing the criminal justice system and promoting rehabilitation.

According to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Sheikh Rashid expressed pride in the level of security cooperation and coordination between the two countries, describing it as stemming from “the depth of the firmly rooted historical relations” under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad of Bahrain and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait. He also thanked Sheikh Fahad for the “good preparations for the visit and the warm hospitality” and highlighted his aspiration to enhance cooperation in training, operational capabilities, joint exercises, and the exchange of security expertise.
BNA reported that the discussions included activating the Joint Security Committee and developing the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Interior Ministries. It added that both sides agreed to sign additional agreements covering police training, civil protection, combating violence and addiction, alternative sentencing and open prisons to strengthen joint cooperation. Sheikh Rashid described the meeting as an “exceptional and constructive step” in advancing security collaboration, BNA said.
The meetings were attended by senior Kuwaiti officials, including Sheikh Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Head of the Crown Prince’s Diwan, Commodore Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, Director General of the Kuwait Coast Guard and other top Interior Ministry leaders. — KUNA
