GENEVA: Kuwait on Tuesday reiterated its steadfast commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with its national development plan, New Kuwait Vision 2035, which aims to strengthen the country’s role as a leading financial, commercial, and cultural hub in the Gulf region. The declaration was made by Diplomatic Attache Hanan Al-Sultan of the Department of Human Rights at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the 12th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development in Geneva, marking the 40th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development.
Al-Sultan stressed that development is not solely an economic objective but a comprehensive process encompassing economic, social, cultural, and political dimensions, all aimed at enhancing individual and societal well-being while upholding human dignity and social justice. She reaffirmed Kuwait’s determination to advance its development agenda through national policies that promote the active participation of all citizens on the principles of equality and non-discrimination, ensuring fair distribution of resources and opportunities.
Al-Sultan also renewed Kuwait’s pledge to fulfill its commitments as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for 2024–2026, underscoring the country’s dedication to meeting its international human rights obligations and cooperating closely with the UN and the global community to advance the right to development. The diplomat highlighted the vital contributions of Kuwaiti women and youth and their growing role across diverse fields, reflecting Kuwait’s aspirations for inclusive and sustainable growth and its spirit of innovation and civic responsibility.
She further emphasized Kuwait’s active support for international development efforts, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by developing and least-developed nations. In this regard, she cited the key role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, established in 1961, which has financed projects in 107 countries.
Al-Sultan explained that these initiatives reflect Kuwait’s deep-rooted belief in international solidarity and humanitarian cooperation and its commitment to providing essential support to countries in need, contributing to global security, stability, and sustainable development. She reiterated Kuwait’s determination to work alongside international partners to promote the right to development, strengthen justice, equality, and opportunity, and build a sustainable, inclusive future that safeguards human dignity and ensures prosperity and security for generations to come. – KUNA
