Hugo Ekitike scored his first senior international goal as France confirmed their qualification for the World Cup on Thursday.
The Liverpool forward came off the bench and rounded off Les Bleus’ 4-0 win over Ukraine with a smart finish late on. Victory at Parc des Princes – where Ibrahima Konate was an unused substitute – secured top spot in qualifying Group B for France.
Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai assisted Hungary’s goal in their crucial 1-0 away victory over Armenia.
Szoboszlai, captaining a team also including Milos Kerkez, delivered a superb cross for Barnabas Varga to head home the winner.
Hungary now sit two points behind Group F leaders Portugal ahead of their final qualifier, against the Republic of Ireland in Budapest, on Sunday. Ireland, who beat Portugal 2-0 in Dublin on Thursday, are one point adrift of Hungary.
At U21 level, Kieran Morrison played 75 minutes of Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win versus Latvia in European Championship qualifying, while Armin Pecsi started as Hungary beat Faroe Islands 3-0 in a friendly.
