KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Traffic Department, announced Thursday the arrest of 115 residency violators and three wanted individuals during extensive traffic campaigns carried out between September 13 and 18. The campaigns, which covered several highways including the Seventh Ring Road, also led to the issuance of 3,239 traffic citations.
In a statement, the ministry said the operations resulted in the seizure of 56 vehicles, the impounding of two cars for violating traffic laws, and the referral of three cases to the traffic police. Authorities also arrested 12 juveniles for driving without a license and referred 36 people to police stations for failing to provide proof of identity. The ministry reaffirmed that such campaigns will continue across all governorates to curb violations, preserve lives and property, and ensure smoother traffic flow on Kuwait’s roads.
Traffic safety has long been a pressing issue in Kuwait, with the country recording one of the highest rates of road fatalities in the region relative to population size. According to official statistics, thousands of accidents occur annually, many linked to reckless driving, speeding, and the use of vehicles by unlicensed drivers. Authorities have in recent years intensified patrols, automated monitoring, and inspection campaigns in an effort to enforce discipline and reduce violations. The ministry stressed that its security presence on highways and major roads will remain ongoing as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and regulate residency and labor law compliance. — KUNA
