KUWAIT: An intensive programming camp on the video game industry kicked off on Saturday, offering enthusiasts and aspiring developers a platform to acquire specialized skills in game development and creative design. The eight-day camp, organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), is being held at the Kuwait National Library. Omaima Al-Saad, founder and director of video game industry programs at NCCAL, told KUNA that the camp provides participants with hands-on training in game engines, game design, music composition for video games, as well as the preparation of game design files and investment proposals. It also introduces strategies for revenue generation from games.
She emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the creative economy and create promising job opportunities in a rapidly expanding global sector, noting that the program is led by a team of experienced specialists and business consultants. Electronic game designer and developer Abdullah Al-Mutairi praised NCCAL’s support, describing it as a crucial incentive for Kuwaiti youth after years of limited assistance in the field of electronic games and e-sports. Speaking at the opening, Al-Mutairi said the camp marks an important milestone for participants, giving them the chance to refine their talents and benefit from the expertise of trainers.
He highlighted the vast potential of the gaming industry, both as a source of entertainment and as a professional career path with substantial financial returns. Al-Mutairi added that the industry has become a platform for Kuwaiti youth to showcase their creativity on the international stage, citing examples of young Kuwaitis who achieved notable success in global competitions. “Challenges may arise, but they build determination and fuel achievements,” he said, urging participants to pursue their ambitions and collaborate with trainers to develop innovative games.
Sharing his experience, Mohammed Al-Sabah, who won the previous electronic games challenge organized by NCCAL with his team, said such events provide invaluable opportunities to enhance skills and nurture teamwork. He explained that his team’s success was built on collaboration between specialists in design, programming, and artistic direction. Despite time constraints and the pressure of multiple development stages, effective planning and clear task distribution enabled them to overcome challenges. Al-Sabah encouraged participants to stay determined, work collectively, and approach obstacles with confidence. “Every difficulty can be transformed into a starting point for greater achievement if faced with determination,” he said. — KUNA
