KUWAIT: The Ministry of Information announced the addition of the Volunteer Tourist Guide service to its e-services on the “Sahel” government application, allowing citizens to apply as tour guide volunteers. In a press statement, the ministry said the initiative is part of its strategy to support the tourism sector in Kuwait, under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
The ministry explained that the new service was launched upon the directives of Minister of Information, Culture and State Minister for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, as part of efforts to enhance Kuwait’s standing as a tourism destination. The initiative seeks to involve Kuwaiti youth in offering distinctive cultural and tourism experiences for visitors, reflecting the country’s spirit of hospitality and national identity.
According to the ministry, the program also carries a strategic dimension through the establishment of a national database of volunteer guides in coordination with the Volunteer Work Center. Volunteers will play a role in organizing tours, events, and activities, as well as welcoming visitors in cooperation with relevant authorities. The Volunteer Tourist Guide service aims to qualify Kuwaiti youth to act as ambassadors of their country by providing information, guidance, and support to tourists, thereby contributing to the success of cultural and tourism events.
Applicants can register via the “Sahel” platform by submitting their CVs, after which they will be notified upon receipt of their application. Candidates will undergo an evaluation process including a personal interview, communication skills assessment, cultural knowledge test, and a review of their willingness to participate. Selected volunteers will take part in a training program designed to develop their skills as tour guides. The program will focus on communication, public speaking, tourism interpretation and the practical application of guiding tours across Kuwait’s attractions. — KUNA
