KUWAIT: The Indonesian Embassy celebrated the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence by hosting the “Indonesian Independence Festival”, bringing together the Indonesian community, diplomats, Kuwaiti friends and media representatives for a vibrant day of culture, heritage and unity. Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait Lena Maryana said that this year’s celebration — traditionally marked on August 17 — was held in October due to better weather conditions.
The festival, which began in the morning and ran till the evening, featured an array of cultural shows, including artistic performances, music and traditional games that are hallmarks of Independence Day celebrations across Indonesia.
A major attraction of the event was the culinary zone dedicated to traditional Indonesian cuisine, organized under the global campaign “Indonesia Spice Up the World.” Ambassador Maryana emphasized the richness of Indonesian food culture. “Indonesian cuisine is incredibly diverse, with hundreds of traditional dishes,” she said.
The Ambassador revealed that approximately 6,000 Indonesians live in Kuwait and expressed pride in the community’s spirit and involvement. She noted that the entire festival — from planning to execution — was led by volunteers from the Indonesian community itself. “I am very grateful to this wonderful community that works with love and cooperation,” she said. “They take the initiative without us even asking them for anything.”
Ambassador Maryana concluded by praising the unity and energy that define the events organized by the embassy. “I am very proud of my people in Kuwait,” she said. “They work with passion and have turned this festival into a vibrant and joyful celebration.”
