KUWAIT: Kuwait will be affected by an extension of the Indian monsoon depression, accompanied by a hot and humid air mass, particularly over coastal areas, according to Director of the Meteorology Department Dharar Al-Ali. Al-Ali told KUNA that winds will shift from northwesterly to southeasterly, causing a gradual rise in humidity, which is expected to persist until Friday. He added that northwesterly winds will return Friday evening, reducing humidity levels. During this period, the weather will be generally hot and relatively humid during the day and hot to very humid at night, especially along coastal areas.
Meanwhile, Director of Al-Ajari Scientific Center Yousef Al-Ajari announced that Kuwait will witness a rare total lunar eclipse on Sunday — the second this year. He explained that the moon will pass fully into the Earth’s shadow, turning copper-red in a spectacle known as the “blood moon,” which will be visible across the country from start to finish. Al-Ajari stressed that the eclipse can be safely viewed with the naked eye, as well as through telescopes or binoculars, particularly from open eastern areas and along the coast.
He added that the center will monitor the phenomenon as part of a special event organized by Kuwait University’s Physics Department in cooperation with the Kuwait National Center for Space Research and other partners. The public event, to be held Sunday from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm, will allow astronomy enthusiasts to observe the eclipse. It will also feature discussions led by specialists, with participation from students, diplomats and space science enthusiasts. Al-Ajari noted that special attention will be given to engaging children and young people with an interest in astronomy. — KUNA
