Regional forces carry out joint drills to boost coordination and combat readiness
KUWAIT: The Gulf Shield 2026 exercise wrapped up with participation from Kuwait and all GCC countries. Held in Saudi Arabia, the drills brought together air defense forces from all GCC countries, in addition to the Unified Military Command of GCC.
“The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional defense cooperation and enhance combat readiness,” the Kuwait Armed Forces said in a statement on Friday.
Over several days, participants engaged in advanced operational scenarios, including simulations of multi-dimensional aerial and missile threats. Joint air maneuvers and integrated field exercises tested coordination between forces, focusing on improving interoperability, command systems and operational efficiency in a shared environment.
The Kuwait Armed Forces emphasized that Gulf Shield 2026 is a cornerstone of military collaboration among GCC states. “It reflects continuous efforts to strengthen defense integration and improve the ability to respond to regional and international challenges,” the statement added.

The exercise concluded with a joint aerial display, demonstrating the level of operational harmony among participating forces. The performance highlighted their ability to plan and execute missions according to unified operational concepts and high professional standards.
Launched on January 4 in Saudi Arabia, Gulf Shield 2026 has been running for six days. It is designed to enhance combat readiness, foster joint operations and achieve seamless integration in shared operational environments. The drills included a comprehensive set of exercises and scenarios to test forces’ readiness and response effectiveness, ensuring coordination within a flexible deterrence system.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense described the exercise as “a key example of joint defense cooperation among GCC countries, reflecting combat readiness against current, emerging and future threats.” The exercise is considered a fundamental pillar in consolidating the concept of joint military action aimed at ensuring the security, safety and stability of the GCC states. — Agencies
