MANAMA: The GCC Organ Transplant Committee on Thursday discussed the latest ways to enhance organ transplant services, the logistical challenges of transporting organs across member states, and mechanisms to strengthen integration in organ exchange to maximize their use and avoid waste. The discussions took place during the committee’s two-day meetings in Bahrain, with the participation of representatives from health ministries and medical centers across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The committee emphasized the importance of boosting cooperation among GCC states in organ transplantation, while also supporting preventive healthcare efforts and promoting public health and well-being in Gulf societies. Such cooperation, it noted, would help achieve a qualitative leap in healthcare services and provide new chances at life for patients in need.
The meetings also reviewed successful experiences in organ transplantation, particularly those that expanded access through family organ exchange programs. In addition, participants examined updates to the GCC Health Council’s 2023–2026 strategic plan, which includes innovative initiatives and solutions at both regional and international levels. These efforts aim to develop a unified Gulf platform for organ transplantation and standardize related systems and policies to facilitate organ exchange among member states. – KUNA
