KUWAIT: Acting Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Duaij Al-Otaibi affirmed that the 17th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Permanent Committee for Meteorology and Climate represents an important step toward advancing joint Gulf action and implementing key initiatives in the fields of meteorology and climate. In his opening address at the meeting, held Wednesday in Kuwait, Al-Otaibi said the gathering reflects the GCC’s firm commitment to coordinated regional efforts and constructive cooperation in executing shared projects — most notably the establishment of an advanced early warning network for weather and climate-related disasters across GCC countries.
He explained that the network aims to strengthen regional preparedness, protect lives and property, and meet the aspirations of GCC leaders and citizens. Al-Otaibi expressed pride in the continued support of the region’s leadership for meteorological and climate initiatives, describing them as “a vital pillar in building the future,” and noting that meteorology and climate are integral to achieving sustainable development.
