KUWAIT: The interior ministry on Tuesday urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic safety guidelines during the ongoing rainfall. In a press statement, the ministry emphasized avoiding sudden braking, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, monitoring weather alerts, ensuring tyre safety, using windshield wipers, driving below speed limits and refraining from driving through flooded areas. Drivers were also advised against using mobile phones while on the road and instructed to call the emergency number (112) if assistance is required.
The meteorological department forecast rain of varying intensity, occasionally thundery, across the country until Thursday, with possible fog forming in some areas during the evening and early morning. Acting Director Dharar Al-Ali told KUNA that weather maps, numerical models and satellite imagery indicate that Kuwait will be affected until the end of Thursday by a deep surface low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere.
Al-Ali explained that the system will increase low- and medium-level cloud cover, interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds, bringing scattered rain ranging from light to moderate intensity, with occasional heavy showers in some areas late Wednesday evening and continuing intermittently until Thursday evening. He noted that horizontal visibility will be reduced during rainfall, and fog may persist in certain areas during the morning and evening.
Winds are expected to be mostly southeasterly to variable, light to moderate in speed, becoming occasionally active before shifting to northwesterly to northerly from Wednesday afternoon. The meteorological department urged citizens and residents to follow updates through its official website, mobile application and social media channels to stay informed about the latest weather developments.
