KUWAIT: The Cabinet, in its regular meeting on Tuesday at Bayan Palace, reviewed the upgraded master plan for the Sulaibikhat Bay development project. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shareeda Al-Maousherji said in a statement following the meeting, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, that Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdullatif Al-Meshari briefed the Cabinet on the project, which includes the establishment of nature reserves as well as a marine reserve.
The plan envisions residential and commercial zones alongside public recreational facilities and incorporates proposals for the development of Ras Ashirj and the Ashirj Islands. At the start of the meeting, His Highness the Prime Minister updated Cabinet members on the outcomes of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Kuwait on Tuesday. He noted that discussions between His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and President Erdogan focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation across multiple fields, and exploring broader initiatives serving mutual interests. The leaders also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.
The visit concluded with the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs), including a maritime transport agreement and MoU between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior and the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure on mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates; a MoU on cooperation in the energy sector; and a MoU between the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and the Investment and Finance Office of the Turkish Presidency on direct investment promotion.
Meanwhile, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem briefed the Cabinet on his official visit to the United States from October 14 to 18. Leading a Kuwaiti delegation that included Central Bank Governor Basel Al-Haroun, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Waleed Al-Bahar, and senior Ministry of Finance officials, Al-Mukhaizeem attended the 2025 annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Board of Governors.
He highlighted discussions on the global economic outlook, poverty reduction and sustainable development. Al-Mukhaizeem also reported on the meeting of Arab Governors with World Bank President Ajay Banga, addressing post-conflict recovery, digital transformation in labor markets, infrastructure and human capital gaps and enhancing the business environment.
The minister further briefed the Cabinet on the MENAP (Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan) Finance Ministers’ meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, which reviewed the latest global economic developments and regional challenges. He also participated in a high-level event titled “Economic Transformation in Kuwait – Foundations for a New Era,” organized by the Kuwait Banking Association at George Washington University, emphasizing the financial sector’s role in supporting economic diversification and strategic partnerships with the United States in technology, renewable energy and innovative finance under Kuwait Vision 2035.
The Cabinet discussed other agenda items, approving some and referring others to ministerial committees for further study. Additionally, it approved the minutes of the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship, addressing cases of loss, withdrawal, and revocation of nationality in accordance with Decree Law No. 15 of 1959 and its amendments. — KUNA
