KUWAIT: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait celebrated Armed Forces Day on November 26 under the auspices of Bangladeshi Ambassador Major General Syed Tareq Hussain. The ceremony was attended by Bangladeshi Defense Attaché Brigadier General Rakib, alongside Major General Firas Al-Shaheen of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
In his address, Ambassador Hussain paid tribute to the country’s valiant freedom fighters, saying, “On this special day, I respectfully acknowledge the contributions of our heroes who sacrificed everything for our liberation. We solemnly honor the martyrs of our liberation war, whose supreme sacrifices gave birth to an independent Bangladesh.” He also remembered the students and citizens who lost their lives during the July–August Movement of 2024. “The Bangladesh Armed Forces, forged on the battlefields of our liberation war, continue to be a source of national pride and an integral part of our development,” he added.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness the Crown Prince, His Highness the Prime Minister, and the country’s top leadership for their continued support in hosting around 290,000 Bangladeshi nationals in Kuwait, including military personnel. He also acknowledged the contributions of nations, organizations, and individuals who supported Bangladesh’s liberation, noting that “Kuwait holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh, with bonds deeply rooted in history.”
Major General Firas Al-Shaheen conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces. He extended greetings from the Chief of the General Staff to all members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, highlighting the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Kuwait and Bangladesh. He praised the Bangladesh Army for its role during the 1991 liberation of Kuwait and for its continued professional and technical support in collaboration with the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
Defense Attaché Brigadier General Rakib emphasized the significance of Armed Forces Day, saying it reflects the patriotism, solidarity, courage, and sacrifices of the Bangladeshi people. He recalled that Bangladesh’s liberation war began as a guerrilla resistance, culminating in independence on December 16, 1971, achieved through the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s citizens and armed forces. The event also honored the members of the Bangladeshi mission in Kuwait for their dedication and professional support to the country’s armed personnel. Ambassador Hussain concluded by reaffirming the enduring friendship between the State of Kuwait and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
