KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior, through the General Department for Drug Control, announced on Thursday the seizure of 145 kilograms of hashish and the dismantling of a narcotics network reportedly operated by an inmate at the central prison. In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations and Security Media Department, authorities said the case arose following investigations by security services, which revealed that an Asian woman was in possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics with the intent to trade.
A legal permit was issued by the Public Prosecution, and the woman was arrested with the drugs in her possession. She reportedly confessed that the narcotics belonged to her and were intended for distribution, also implicating a non-Kuwaiti inmate at the central prison and a fugitive Asian woman in managing the trafficking operations.
The statement added that a joint operation was immediately launched by the General Department of Narcotics Control and the Inspection and Security Support Squad of the General Department of Correctional Institutions. During the raid of the inmate’s cell, authorities confiscated a mobile phone used to coordinate drug promotion and communicate with accomplices. When confronted, the inmate reportedly admitted in detail to orchestrating the operations in coordination with the fugitive woman.
All suspects and seized narcotics have been referred to the Narcotics Prosecution for further legal action. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying campaigns against drug traffickers, stressing that no leniency will be shown toward anyone attempting to compromise public security or the health of society. — KUNA
