The governor of Darfur, Minni Arkou Minnawi, has told Middle East Eye that 27,000 Sudanese were killed in just three days as paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) went on a killing spree after seizing el-Fasher late last month. This figure is considerably higher than previous estimates of the scale of slaughter that followed the sudden withdrawal of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from the capital of North Darfur state at the end of October. Previously, officials and humanitarian workers had put the death toll at more than 2,500 people. However, in the days and weeks following the fall of el-Fasher, which had…

The extent of Forest’s current injury list was reflected in manager Sean Dyche bringing an actual list to his pre-match media briefing. One of that number could return: Callum Hudson-Odoi, the scorer of the only goal in this fixture last season.”[He] has made good progress, he has been on the grass with us this week, so he is certainly in consideration to be in the squad. Amazon’s 14,000-plus layoffs announced last month touched almost every piece of the company’s sprawling business, from cloud computing and devices to advertising, retail and grocery stores. But one job category bore the brunt of cuts more than others: engineers. Documents filed in New York, California, New Jersey and Amazon’s home state of Washington showed that nearly 40% of the more than 4,700 job cuts in those states were engineering roles. The data was reported by Amazon in Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, filings to state agencies. The figures represent a segment of the total layoffs announced in October. Not…
The West has spent two years partnering Israel in its campaign of wanton destruction in Gaza. Now the United States – with the permission of a cowed United Nations Security Council – has appointed Donald Trump to preside over the ruins. Like a Roman emperor, the US president will be able to dictate the fate of Gaza’s people with a simple gesture. Whatever he decides – whether the thumb turns up or down – it will be called “peace”. Trump’s most likely side-kick in this depraved charade will be Tony Blair, the former British prime minister. He won his war-crime…
