CNN — The deputy chief of the Russian Navy has been killed by Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk region, Oleg Kozhemyako, the governor of the Primorsky region in Russia’s far east, said Thursday. Guards Maj. Gen. Mikhail Gudkov, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy who also led a brigade that fought in Ukraine, was killed in the Russian border region that saw a successful Ukrainian incursion last year. He is one of Russia’s highest-ranking officers to have been killed since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago. Kozhemyako previously handed Gudkov awards for bravery and said…
CNN — Electric vehicles are a common sight on roads across the world — but not everywhere. In Saudi Arabia, electric vehicles (EVs) account for just over 1% of overall car sales, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) “eMobility Outlook 2024: KSA Edition,” published in September 2024. Globally, about 18% of all cars sold in 2023 were electric, according to the International Energy Agency. There are several roadblocks to the rollout of cleaner cars in the desert kingdom, but things are changing quickly. The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company (EVIQ) is at the forefront of that transformation. EVIQ was founded in late 2023…

A Nike store in Hanoi, Vietnam, on July 3, 2025.Nhac Nguyen | Afp | Getty Images If I had to choose between having a job and paying less for Nike shoes, you’d see me running barefoot to the office. Wednesday’s market moves, however, suggested that Wall Street preferred the cheaper shoes. The U.S. economy lost private sector jobs in June, the first time hiring had contracted since March 2023, according to payrolls processing firm ADP. It’s even more startling because a Dow Jones survey of economists had pegged job numbers to expand by 100,000.Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on…
CNN — A deferral on abortion. A major shift in turnout strategy. A reversal on early voting. President Donald Trump and his team made a series of political calculations steeped in cynicism months before the November 2024 election, according to a new book from a trio of reporters who chronicled the election – which ultimately laid the groundwork for his victory. It depicts a candidate more focused on winning than steadfast beliefs. CNN has exclusively obtained a passage from Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf’s “2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America.” The chapter…

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Passing a new law restricting assault weapons took Rhode Island lawmakers more than 10 years, but it may offer a road map to other states looking to ease the proliferation of such firearms. For advocates, the fight is a prime example of the current challenges to passing gun control measures in the U.S., particularly surrounding semiautomatic rifles that have become the weapon of choice among those responsible for most of the country’s devastating mass shootings. When Rhode Island’s bill was signed into law by Democratic Gov. Dan McKee late last month, its sponsor, Democratic Rep. Jason Knight, told…
