He continued: “To play in a World Cup is really special. I had the opportunity to play in one and we won it, which is not easy at all. [It] was in the middle of a season so this one [next summer] is going to be different.
“But I don’t think about the future. I know some players worry about getting injured before the World Cup, but I don’t think that way. I always say that you have to go 100 per cent every single game.
“It’s not going to be easy [to defend the World Cup] because there will be a lot of good teams, really good players and we understand it’s not easy to win two in a row. But we hope the next one is a big one for Argentina as well, and that we can defend the trophy and win another one.
“That’s the mentality we have – we always want more.”
Whatever happens during a significant upcoming period on the pitch, the midfielder can plan for a life-changing moment away from football, with Mac Allister set to become a father too.
He said: “It sounds funny, but I really like football – for me it’s my passion and the only thing I really enjoy… until now because [my girlfriend and I] are having a baby girl.
“I’ve received advice from Cody Gakpo, and Dominik [Szoboszlai] is having a baby too, which is nice because we are in another part of the world from our families so we need that help.
“[Having a daughter] is going to change my life for sure. I’m really looking forward to that.”
Mac Allister was speaking as part of the launch of Liverpool’s new adidas third kit for 2025-26, which was officially unveiled and went on sale this morning.
