“I was a tour guide for a short time too, so I was able to walk down the tunnel on many occasions and see my name there and take people round to show them the stadium.
“I just love going to Anfield and to have my name etched their makes it extra-special. I stand on the Kop, one of my sons is in the Kenny [Dalglish Stand], my other son is in front of me, and my best mate is next to me, who I have been going with since 1972.
“Anfield is such a wonderful place. I love going whether we’re playing Carlisle, Chelsea or Chesterfield. It doesn’t matter who it is – Port Vale or PSG – I just love to go to the game. To be part of that yourself is brilliant and a lovely thing.”
He added: “You just grew up with football when you were a kid. I first went when I was eight in 1967, and I can still remember the game – against Chelsea – and exactly where I was stood.
“I was in the Anfield Road end right behind the goal with my brother, and one of the first things that got me was the roar from the Kop. Sure enough I was just astounded with the atmosphere, the support and the singing – I was hooked.
“Anfield is truly a special place for all of us as Liverpool fans.”
