KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior, through the General Directorate of Coast Guard, announced the arrest of three individuals involved in illegal fishing and attempting to run over a security officer, authorities said Monday. In a statement, the Ministry said the operation took place during a routine maritime patrol when Coast Guard officers spotted a boat fishing without a valid permit, in clear violation of regulations.
The statement added that when officers tried to stop the vessel, the captain refused to comply and fled. He was pursued until reaching the shore, where he attempted to escape again by boarding his boat. “During this pursuit, he attempted to run over a security officer, but he was apprehended without any injuries to the police force,” the statement said.
The three suspects include a Kuwaiti national and two stateless individuals, all with prior criminal records. Investigations revealed that the boat was not registered as a fishing vessel, breaching legal requirements. The ministry confirmed that legal procedures were followed, the boat was confiscated and destroyed, and the suspects were referred to the competent authorities to face all necessary legal actions. The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed that anyone who violates the law or threatens the safety of security personnel will face strict punishment and vowed to continue taking firm action to protect the country’s territorial waters. — KUNA
