KUWAIT: Kuwait Times has appointed Jana Khaldoun Alnaqeeb as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, marking a significant step that reflects the company’s commitment to women’s empowerment and to strengthening female representation in leadership roles within the media sector. The appointment follows Alnaqeeb’s three-year tenure at Kuwait Times, where she served as Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.
During this period, she played a pivotal role in expanding the newspaper’s community engagement through educational and cultural initiatives, led the development of the summer internship program and established direct channels of interaction with school and university students. Her efforts also extended to attracting creative content creators and advancing the paper’s digital strategy, reinforcing Kuwait Times’ media presence and strengthening its connection with younger audiences.
“We have worked deliberately to bridge cultural gaps between Kuwaitis, expatriate communities and the wider global community by highlighting diverse cultures, perspectives and ways of life. Our goal is to position Kuwait Times and Kuwait News as institutions where youth and talent can thrive, grow and pursue what they love, while delivering news in an objective and credible manner,” Alnaqeeb said.
Emphasizing the importance of engaging younger generations, she added: “Our mission is to engage with the younger generation and truly understand their world. They are the future — and often, we learn more from them than we can ever teach. Over time, we have cultivated an environment that attracts young, talented individuals who view us as a home for creativity, knowledge and inspiration — one that encourages them to express their most authentic selves.”
Alnaqeeb highlighted the collaborative culture within the organization, noting: “We are a team — each member contributing to the collective vision that brings our work to life. At the core of our culture are the Four Agreements: Do your best; never assume — always ask questions; don’t take anything personally; and be eloquent with your words. These principles are the pillars of our communication and the foundation of everything we create.”
Founded in September 1961, Kuwait Times is the first English-language daily newspaper in Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf. The publication celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, continuing its legacy as a trusted source of news and a platform for dialogue across communities.
Alnaqeeb holds a degree in Mass Communications and Visual Media from the American University in Washington. Her professional background spans academia and the private sector, having served as Head of Admissions at Kuwait Maastricht Business School (KMBS) and Sports and Recreation Manager at the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK). She has also worked as a creative consultant at TMI–J. Walter Thompson.
Beyond her corporate and academic roles, Alnaqeeb is a co-founder of the Kuwait Charity Run, which was established as a non-profit sporting initiative and marked the first half marathon in Kuwait. She also co-founded The Yoga Center Kuwait and is a certified yoga instructor. In parallel with her professional career, Alnaqeeb pursues photography and social commentary through blogging, while also serving as curator, designer and director of an archival website dedicated to preserving the academic and intellectual legacy of her late father, Dr Khaldoun Alnaqeeb.
