CAIRO: The League of Arab States announced that Kuwait will host the 104th session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media and the 22nd regular session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Information Ministers on Tuesday. Assistant Secretary-General of the League for Media and Communication Ambassador Ahmed Khattabi said in a statement on Sunday that the meetings will focus on sustaining Arab media support for the Palestinian cause in light of ongoing developments, in addition to discussing a number of initiatives aimed at advancing joint Arab media cooperation.
Khattabi explained that the agenda includes activating the mechanisms of the Arab media action plan abroad, strengthening the phased implementation of the media strategy to combat terrorism, reviewing the recommendations of the expert team on media and information literacy, and discussing the media plan to address environmental issues and extreme climate change in the Arab world, one of the regions most affected by these challenges.
He added that the meetings will also review the update of the executive program for the Arab Media Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2030, examine the recommendations of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media, and discuss the preparation of a model law to regulate digital media, as well as a practical framework for negotiations with international media companies. Khattabi noted that other topics on the agenda include the recommendations issued by the Arab International Media Dialogue Forum and the adoption of the theme for the tenth Arab Media Excellence Award, titled Media and Artificial Intelligence.
Expressing confidence in Kuwait’s leadership, Khattabi said the country, which was unanimously elected last November during the session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers at the League’s General Secretariat headquarters, would continue its established role in supporting the joint Arab media system during its chairmanship of the Executive Bureau. A delegation from the League’s General Secretariat, headed by Khattabi, will take part in the two-day meetings and will also participate in the closing ceremony of Kuwait, Capital of Arab Media 2025. — KUNA
