KUWAIT: The competitive rounds of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship for elementary and middle school students began Wednesday at Sabah Al-Salem University City. Around 50 teams are taking part in the event, organized jointly by Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Youth. The tournament, which runs until February 11, aims to support applied learning and boost students’ skills in science, technology and innovation.
Dr Haider Behbehani, Acting Dean of the College of Science at Kuwait University, noted the high turnout and enthusiasm among participants. He said the winners would compete in the international championship in the United States in May, giving Kuwait a chance to showcase its technological capabilities globally.
Dr Dina Al-Mailem, President of Kuwait University said the competition encourages young people to keep pace with developments in the digital world. “The championship also highlights Kuwait’s role in international technology platforms,” she added. “It motivates different age groups to innovate and helps develop national talent in electronic innovations.” She praised the strong level of competition and emphasized the importance of national partnerships in creating opportunities for young talent.

Gazee Al-Jallawi, Acting Director of the Public Authority for Youth, highlighted the importance of investing in young people to achieve Kuwait’s 2035 development vision. “Investing in youth is investing in Kuwait’s future,” he said, praising the university and partners for supporting the annual competition.
Dr Zaid Dashti, Acting Chair of Kuwait University’s Computer Science Department, pointed to the championship’s past global achievements. “In its first year, Kuwaiti participants from the national championship won the Best Robot Design award internationally, and last year, our team received the Judge Award,” he said. Dashti expressed hope that this year’s tournament would achieve another international milestone. — KUNA
