ABU DHABI: Kuwait’s Navy marked a major milestone on Wednesday with the launch of its first “Durra” missile boat at the Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding facility in the United Arab Emirates. The event was attended by Commander of the Kuwait Naval Force Major General Saif Al-Hamlan.
The launch comes under a contract between EDGE Group and Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding to supply Kuwait’s Navy with advanced missile boats. The new vessels are designed to modernize the fleet, enhance operational readiness and strengthen maritime security while safeguarding key national interests.
The ceremony also coincided with Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding’s 30th anniversary and the UAE-Kuwait “Brothers Forever” celebration week, reflecting the strong strategic and defense ties between the two countries. The company, established in 1995, has grown from providing maintenance and repair services for the UAE Navy to building advanced ships for regional and international clients. It operates one of the Middle East’s most sophisticated shipyards, covering 330,000 square meters and employing around 1,500 people.
According to a statement published on WAM, the UAE state news agency, Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding unveiled the 62-meter-long boat, named “Al-Noukhatha,” as part of the largest naval export contract in the region to date. — Agencies
