KUWAIT: HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received on Monday at Bayan Palace President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin on the occasion of his official visit to the country, in the presence of HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
An official reception ceremony was held for Parmelin, beginning with the playing of the national anthems of both countries. HH the Amir then exchanged greetings with members of the accompanying official delegation, while Parmelin greeted senior state officials. Official talks were subsequently held between Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation. The Kuwaiti side was headed by HH the Amir, while the Swiss side was headed by President Parmelin, in the presence of HH the Crown Prince, HH the Prime Minister and senior officials from both countries.
Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah said the talks reviewed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and peoples and ways to strengthen and develop them across various fields, in addition to expanding frameworks of cooperation to serve mutual interests. The discussions also addressed key issues of common concern as well as the latest regional and international developments, with an exchange of views on these matters.

The talks were held in a friendly atmosphere reflecting the spirit of understanding and friendship that characterizes the strong relations between the two countries and their shared desire to enhance cooperation at all levels. A luncheon was later hosted in honor of Parmelin and the accompanying official delegation on the occasion of his official visit, attended by HH the Crown Prince, HH the Prime Minister and senior state officials. Parmelin also received HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at his residence in Bayan Palace.
In a statement, Parmelin affirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Kuwait across various fields, praising the cooperative ties between the two countries based on mutual respect and shared values. He expressed appreciation for the long-standing relationship between Switzerland and Kuwait and his country’s aspiration for a promising future of joint cooperation.
Parmelin said his visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, underscoring the depth of their strong friendship and shared values, particularly in promoting dialogue and peace and upholding humanitarian traditions. He noted that the visit marks his first official visit to an Arab country since assuming office at the beginning of January. He is scheduled to travel next to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Before departing Kuwait, Parmelin and the accompanying official delegation visited Al-Salam Palace Museum, where he was received by the museum’s General Supervisor Sheikha Mona Al-Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. During the visit, he toured the museum’s halls and reviewed its collections and historical documents highlighting key aspects of Kuwait’s history and civilization, including the Kuwait Through Its Rulers Museum, Al-Salam Palace History Museum, and The Civilizations That Settled in Kuwait Museum. – KUNA
