KUWAIT: IKEA Kuwait joined hands with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and multiple local companies and organizations in a Shuwaikh beach clean-up initiative aimed at protecting Kuwait’s coastline. The initiative raised awareness of marine conservation and the importance of reducing waste and recycling.
More than 50 IKEA employees, alongside their families, volunteered in the activity, which was held under the patronage of KISR Director General Dr Faisal Al-Humaidan. The initiative blended hands-on environmental action with interactive learning, engaging children and families through educational stations, waste sorting activities and experiences designed to inspire long term environmental responsibility.
“Protecting Kuwait’s natural coastline is a shared responsibility. It was truly a heartwarming day, witnessing organizations and companies in Kuwait unite with one purpose: to support our community. Through initiatives like this beach cleanup, IKEA demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by taking meaningful collective action that supports environmental resilience and reflects our long-term dedication to a more sustainable future in Kuwait,” said Sabrina Shammas, IKEA’s Sustainability Manager.

KUWAIT: More than 50 IKEA employees, alongside their families, participated in KISR’s Shuwaikh beach clean-up initiative.
As part of its contribution to the day activities, IKEA gifted all participants the iconic FRAKTA bags to encourage reducing single-use plastics and raise awareness of the importance of making everyday sustainable choices. IKEA also treated the participating children to an IKEA Kids Meal and a soft toy as a token of appreciation for their participation and hard work.
“While IKEA environmental ambitions are global, change begins locally. Contributing to cleaner beaches in Kuwait is one way we help the community and raise awareness among families and children about caring for the environment, reducing waste and avoiding harmful practices. By encouraging environmental awareness from a young age, we aim to equip the children of Kuwait with the knowledge and values they need to build a more sustainable future,” commented Elisa Albendea, IKEA Brand and CMI Director.
The initiative aligns with IKEA circular approach, emphasizing smarter use of resources and a long‑term commitment to reducing environmental impact through more responsible practices. “We are proud to stand alongside our co-workers and participants from other organizations. We sincerely thank KISR for leading this impactful initiative. Partnerships like these enable meaningful action on the ground and demonstrate how community collaboration can drive true positive impact for the environment,” concluded Shammas.
