KUWAIT: The Ministry of Information and Culture honored the first graduates of its volunteer tourist guide program on Wednesday. The ceremony was held at the Saud Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute, with Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi presenting certificates to 83 participants.
Al-Mutairi said the initiative is part of the ministry’s strategy to showcase Kuwait’s heritage and strengthen its reputation as a cultural and tourist destination. “Training and involving volunteers is essential for enhancing the visitor experience and encouraging community participation, particularly among young people,” he said.
The program builds on a national initiative launched in September 2025, when the Ministry of Information introduced the Volunteer Tourist Guide program on the government’s Sahel app. According to a statement published at the time, Kuwaiti citizens can apply to become tourist guides, submitting their CVs for evaluation through the app. Candidates would undergo interviews, communication skills assessments, cultural knowledge tests and a review of their willingness to engage in volunteer activities.

Selected volunteers would then participate in a structured training program covering tourism guidance skills, public speaking, communication and in-depth knowledge of Kuwait’s history, heritage sites and attractions. The initiative aims to prepare young Kuwaitis to act as ambassadors for the country, providing guidance and support to visitors and contributing to the success of tourism and cultural events.
Al-Mutairi expressed appreciation to the trainees for their dedication and to the organizers for their efforts. He also confirmed the ministry’s continued support for programs that promote volunteerism and strengthen Kuwait’s cultural and tourism sectors. — Agencies
