KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has completed a major project providing rehabilitation and therapeutic services for people with disabilities in Kuwait, funded by the General Secretariat of Awqaf. The initiative, launched in November 2024, aimed to empower individuals with physical, mental and sensory disabilities, as well as those with learning difficulties, autism and various syndromes. Around 200 beneficiaries took part in the program, which had a total budget of KD 114,286.
The project offered specialized rehabilitation and therapeutic services designed to enhance participants’ cognitive, linguistic, life, and behavioral skills. A total of 12,453 sessions were conducted, including 3,060 cognitive skills sessions, 2,929 language sessions, 2,052 life skills sessions, 2,138 behavioral modification sessions, 1,118 occupational therapy sessions, and 1,153 physical therapy sessions.
“The results showed notable improvement among many beneficiaries in their motor, behavioral and cognitive abilities,” the organization said. It added that the program helped participants become more independent and increased their opportunities for social integration. — KUNA
