BAGHDAD/KUWAIT: The 13th meeting of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Joint Technical and Legal Committee on the Demarcation of Maritime Borders beyond Marker 162 was held in Baghdad on Monday. The Kuwaiti side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, while the Iraqi side was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Zyad Al-Tamimi.
During the meeting, both sides restated their commitment to continuing the committee’s periodic meetings with a view to finalizing the demarcation of maritime borders between the two countries beyond Marker No 162, based on international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Separately, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Abdulwahab Al-Waheeb, on Monday held a meeting with the heads of the concerned sectors participating in the joint Gulf exercise “Arabian Gulf Security 4”, which is being held in Qatar this month.

The Ministry of Interior said in a press release that Major General Al-Waheeb conveyed to the attendees the directives of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, on the importance of this exercise in enhancing joint Gulf security cooperation and raising the level of coordination and field integration between the security agencies in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
He stressed the need to adhere to the highest standards of discipline and professionalism and represent Kuwait in an honorable manner that reflects the efficiency and readiness of the employees of the Ministry of Interior, praising the efforts of the participating sectors and their readiness to participate effectively in the exercise.
He added that the participation of the Kuwaiti security force in the Gulf tactical exercise comes from the keenness to enhance joint security cooperation among the Gulf countries and raise the level of readiness and competence in the field of the employees of the Ministry of Interior in dealing with various crises and emergencies, in a way that contributes to supporting the security and safety system and consolidating the principle of working in the spirit of one team.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector, Brigadier Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, and the Head of the Private Security and Correctional Institutions Affairs Sector, Brigadier Dakhil Al-Dakhil, to review the readiness and participation plans. — KUNA
