KUWAIT: The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced Thursday the opening of registration for its 37th Spring Student Training Program, set to run from January 11 to 22, 2026. The program targets middle school students in grades 8 and 9. Mona Al-Failakawi, director of KISR’s Manpower Development Department, said the initiative reflects the institute’s founding decree, which emphasizes encouraging young Kuwaitis to engage in scientific research and fostering a culture of inquiry among the next generation.
“Since its launch in 1986, our spring programs have welcomed around 118 students,” Al-Failakawi noted. “The institute is keen to cultivate a passion for research in young generations and to provide productive ways for them to spend their spring break, benefiting both themselves and the nation.”
The program offers a variety of scientific courses, including those covering science, robotics and mobile app development. Al-Failakawi said KISR’s team of specialized researchers will supervise the sessions, combining laboratory experiments with field visits to make learning both practical and engaging.
Eligibility is open to Kuwaiti students in grades 8 and 9 at public and private schools, provided they maintain a minimum overall grade of 75 percent in the 2024–2025 academic year and pass a personal interview conducted by a specialized committee. Al-Failakawi emphasized that submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. The deadline for registration is Saturday, January 3, 2026, through KISR’s website, while interviews will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026. — KUNA
