KUWAIT: In the presence of Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadi, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 20 food preparation sites across its hospitals and health centers have been awarded ISO 22000:2018 certification for food safety management systems. With this achievement, all food preparation facilities under the Nutrition and Food Service Department in the public health sector are now fully accredited according to this international standard.
The Ministry said the accreditation represents the culmination of comprehensive efforts to enhance food safety in health facilities and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors, in line with globally recognized best practices. ISO 22000:2018 is a leading international certification in food safety, reflecting the commitment of certified entities to implement a comprehensive food risk management system at all stages of food handling — from receipt of raw materials to meal serving — thereby preventing contamination and minimizing health risks.
The Ministry noted that obtaining the certification demonstrates adherence to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system, reinforcing a culture of quality and continuous improvement within food service centers and increasing patient and beneficiary confidence in hospital food services. Highlighting the significance of the milestone, the Ministry stated that it aligns with its vision of enhancing food service quality as part of overall medical care. Work continues to develop systems, train personnel, and strengthen control mechanisms to ensure the sustained application of the highest standards of food safety and quality across all health facilities. — Agencies
