KUWAIT: The Meteorological Department has warned that Kuwait is experiencing scattered thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, particularly in southern and coastal areas. The unstable weather is expected to continue until the early hours of Friday, accompanied by moderate northwesterly winds that will gradually increase to speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour, generating rough seas.
Acting Director of the Department, Dharar Al-Ali, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that weather maps and numerical models indicate the country is under the influence of a northwestern surface high-pressure system coupled with a cold air mass. This coincides with a deepening upper-level low-pressure system, leading to increased low and medium-level cloud cover with scattered cumulonimbus clouds. Al-Ali said Thursday’s weather will be cool and partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate northwesterly winds gusting between 15 and 50 km/h. There is a chance of scattered rain, sometimes thundery, mainly in southern and coastal areas.
Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 13 and 15°C, and the sea will be moderate to rough with waves of 3 to 6 feet. Tonight, conditions will remain unsettled with cloudy to partly cloudy skies and moderate to brisk northeasterly to northwesterly winds occasionally reaching 65 km/h. Thundery rain may occur, heavy at times, particularly in southern and coastal regions, with light fog possible in some areas. Minimum temperatures will range between 8 and 10°C, and the sea will remain moderate to rough with waves of 4 to 7 feet.
Al-Ali reported that Friday will be cool to cold, with clouds and chances of rain gradually decreasing. Northwesterly winds will be moderate to brisk, occasionally strong, at 20 to 60 km/h, raising dust in some areas. Maximum temperatures are expected between 16 and 18°C, and the sea will be moderate to rough with waves of 4 to 7 feet. Friday night will be cold, with light to moderate northwesterly winds of 12 to 35 km/h and light fog in some areas. Minimum temperatures are forecast between 6 and 8°C, with slight to moderate seas and waves of 2 to 4 feet.
Looking ahead to Saturday, Al-Ali said the weather will be cool, with light to moderate northwesterly to variable winds of 6 to 28 km/h. Maximum temperatures will range between 16 and 18°C, and the sea will be slight to moderate with waves of 1 to 3 feet. Saturday night will be cold, with light to moderate northwesterly to variable winds of 8 to 30 km/h and some scattered clouds. Minimum temperatures are expected between 5 and 7°C, with slight to moderate seas and waves of 1 to 4 feet. — KUNA
