KUWAIT: Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi affirmed that the Addiction Rehabilitation Center project is being implemented in line with directives from the political leadership and represents a cornerstone of modern national legislation. The project marks the transition from legal frameworks to practical application by providing specialized treatment and rehabilitation services aimed at supporting sustainable recovery, protecting individuals and society, and enhancing health and social security.
Dr Al-Awadhi made the remarks during a field visit to the center’s construction site at the Sulaibiya Youth Center building, accompanied by the Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs and Projects, Engineer Ibrahim Al-Naham. The visit aimed to follow up on the project’s implementation phases and assess progress on the ground.
The Minister emphasized the importance of accelerating work and completing the project to the highest standards, directing efforts to overcome any obstacles and enhance coordination among relevant authorities to ensure the center becomes operational as soon as possible. During the visit, Dr Al-Awadhi was briefed on the project’s components and facilities, including treatment, rehabilitation and service departments. He reviewed the center’s master plan and targeted operational capacities, ensuring the creation of a comprehensive treatment environment that meets the highest health, medical and security standards.


The engineering and technical team provided detailed explanations regarding current implementation phases, progress rates, technical and construction challenges, and strategies to address them, ensuring adherence to approved timelines and quality standards. As per the ministerial decree establishing the center, the Sulaibiya Youth Center building has been designated as a specialized facility for the rehabilitation and treatment of addiction patients under the name “Addiction Rehabilitation Center.” The center forms part of a national system dedicated to treatment, rehabilitation and prevention.
The facility includes integrated departments such as treatment and accommodation buildings, central medical laboratories, nutrition facilities and support services, in addition to rehabilitation, health, and sports amenities, including a swimming pool, playgrounds, a theater, administrative and security buildings, and reception and service areas. These elements provide a comprehensive framework for medical, psychological, behavioral, and social care within an integrated treatment system. — KUNA
